We use only British bones, spring water, organic vegetables and a few carefully selected seasonings to create a delicious pouch of goodness. Our ingredients are simple, delicious and sourced as mindfully as possible so we’re very proud to cook with them, here are a few reasons why:
We source our bones from a few select organic farms across the UK, chosen based on their ethics and organic standards that meet ours. This means we're supporting:
· Better animal welfare, less environmental damage, fewer pesticides and more wildlife.
· Small-scale farms in the UK, which are competing with large-scale production farms that put profits over ethics.
· Fairness - we buy bones at a fair price, which otherwise would have been exported cheaply or incinerated with little value to our farms.
The water in a bone broth is often overlooked but, as the main ingredient, we don't believe it should be! We want the base of every recipe to be the best it possibly can be so we choose British spring water rather than tap or even filtered tap water to ensure that the broths we produce are free from the residues found in chemical-treated piped city water and toxins that have been shown to wreak havoc in our bodies.
As with all of our ingredients, we source as mindfully as we can. That's why we chose to work with AquAid, who source mineral-rich spring water from Fillongley. Drawn from a deep underground aquifer in rural Warwickshire, and bottled at the source. Working with AquAid reducing our carbon footprint through their central location and reducing waste by using bottles which are then collected with each delivery and reused on a cycle.
Our veg is sustainably sourced from certified organic and biodynamic growers from the UK when in season and as close to home as possible when out of season.
Organically grown veg doesn’t rely on pesticides or synthetic fertilisers. Instead, organic farmers aim to create a natural balance between plants and animals to prevent pests, encouraging birds, beetles and other beneficial insects like ladybirds onto their farms which, in turn, supports wildlife populations.
The veg is chopped and prepped on-site so that it's rich in flavour and nutrients and as fresh as possible for the pot.
It's no secret that some world spices are not all that local - so sourcing organic suppliers for herbs, spices and seasonings are one of our biggest challenges in terms of balancing flavour with our principles. But we're glad we stick with it as it's led us to unearth some excellent, little known suppliers that we are extremely proud to work with.
For our fish sauce, which is traditionally sourced from Asia, we instead discovered a Nordic, family-owned fishing company that supplies delicious fish sauce. We’re still on the lookout for a British supplier but until then, we’re sticking with these guys who believe in keeping things small and sustainable - just like us.
Our beef broth is made using grass-fed organic British beef bones and slow-cooked for 24-hours. Made up of 40% bones, this is a deep and rich broth with an umami hit.View product
