We pride ourselves at Borough Broth Co. on the provenance of our ingredients. Keeping things local, free from chemicals and as sustainably sourced as possible is really important to us. In fact, it's probably one of our absolute core values.
That's why we use British spring water in our broths. While many may scoff at our stubborn stance on the matter, we continue to insist on using spring water rather than tap.
To us, this means we are doing our best to ensure that the broths we produce are free from the fluoride, pharmaceutical residues and chloramine found in chemical-treated piped city water, toxins which have been shown to wreak havoc in our bodies.
Being a main constituent ingredient, we wanted to keep our spring water as mindfully sourced as we possibly could. That's why we chose to work with AquAid.
AquAid source our mineral rich spring water from Fillongley, who draw it from a deep underground aquifer in rural Warwickshire, and bottle it at source. Their central location reduces the carbon footprint as it travels to our London brothery.
Sustainable Development: The Africa Trust
Our relationship with AquAid has also given us the opportunity to give to a cause that we think is so worthy. Each and every bottle of water that goes into making a pouch of broth, or is enjoyed by our staff, automatically donates money to the Africa Trust.
Our donations are currently going towards building a water pump - called an 'Elephant Pump', based on an ancient Chinese rope pulley system - in Africa.
We are very excited about this. By funding to build a system that provides clean water and decent sanitation, we hope to help a community by giving them aid that is designed to last, helping to end the cycle of poverty by beginning to build a stable and clean infrastructure.
To date, AquAid have built over 5,000 of these water pumps across parts of Zimbabwe, Malawi and Liberia.
We will be posting more about the pump as construction goes ahead in the coming months, so watch this space for photos of the completed pump!
